AILeakShield vs Cisco

Cisco controls AI use through Secure Access, its security service edge, and governs third-party Microsoft 365 apps through Umbrella. AILeakShield brings AI discovery, control, prompt protection and governance together without steering traffic through an SSE.

The short answer
  • Choose Cisco if you run Cisco Secure Access or Umbrella and want AI controls inside your SSE, or you are securing AI applications you build.
  • Choose AILeakShield if you want AI governance without SSE traffic steering, with staff policy acknowledgment and a NIST AI RMF assessment included.

What Cisco is: Cisco Secure Access (SSE) AI Access for shadow AI and AI Guardrails DLP, Cisco Umbrella, and Cisco AI Defense for AI applications companies build.

AILeakShield vs Cisco at a glance

Yes means documented. Partial means limited, an add-on, a separate product or preview. Not documented means we could not find it in the vendor's public documentation; it does not mean the vendor has tested and failed it.

Where each one fits

Where Cisco is strong

  • Network and DNS-scale enforcement with a large AI app catalog, plus Microsoft 365 third-party app revocation in Umbrella.
  • AI Guardrails screen for prompt injection and unsafe content, not only data leakage.
  • Depth for companies building AI through AI Defense red teaming and runtime guardrails.

Where AILeakShield is different

  • No SSE traffic steering: prompts are inspected in the browser before they are sent.
  • Discovery of desktop AI apps and coding tools through firewall and DNS log import or an MSP's RMM.
  • A coached warning that records the user's reason, a built-in NIST AI RMF assessment and an AI policy library with tracked staff acknowledgment.
  • AI-specific Microsoft 365 app governance in the same product as prompt protection.

Deployment and buying

Cisco: AI Access needs Cisco Secure Access traffic steering and at least one AI Guardrails DLP rule for discovery. Microsoft 365 third-party app discovery and revocation is in Cisco Umbrella. Cisco sources differ on which package includes generative AI DLP. Prices are not published.

AILeakShield: A browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, installed silently through Google Admin, Microsoft Intune, Group Policy or Jamf, plus firewall and DNS log import and an optional read-only Microsoft 365 connection. No proxy, no TLS inspection and no new browser. Everything is in one subscription, sold through IT providers and distribution including TD SYNNEX, with no seat minimum. Most organizations start in monitor mode.

Using both

AILeakShield can import Cisco Umbrella DNS logs to find desktop AI use, and it does not conflict with Secure Access or Umbrella enforcement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AILeakShield a Cisco Secure Access alternative?

For AI governance and AI data protection, yes. Cisco Secure Access is a full security service edge for all traffic. AILeakShield covers only AI and works without steering traffic through an SSE.

Yes. AILeakShield imports DNS logs, including Umbrella exports, to find AI tools used outside the browser, such as desktop apps and coding tools.

Yes. They work at different layers and do not conflict.

Say yes to AI, safely.

AILeakShield discovers all the AI in your environment, blocks the AI tools you have not approved, and keeps sensitive data out of the prompts sent to the ones you have.
